Possibly
the most frequently asked question we get asked is, "How can
I do a French Manicure using OPI nail polish?". Consequently
we decided to dedicate this page to exactly that issue.
How
is French Manicure done?
You
can achieve a very attractive and effective French Manicure like
that shown here by using just two OPI colours, Coney
Island Cotton Candy and Alpine
Snow (both
available at the bottom of this article).
The
French Manicure Technique
-
As
when applying all polishes, if your nails have ridges, then
for a smooth result apply a coat of Ridge
Filler.
- Next apply
a base coat. You can use either the Acrylic
Base Coat or the Natural
Nail Base Coat. This provides an ideal surface for
the nail polish to adhere to and may help prolong the finish.
- Next apply
one or two even coats of Coney
Island Cotton Candy allowing
plenty of time for the coats to dry before moving onto the next
sticker.
- To complete
that French Manicure look, simply trace a horizontal line across
the tip of the nail using Alpine
Snow .
This can be done by hand or you can make use of french tip nail
stickers. These are low adhesive patches that cover the upper
part of the nail and allow you to confidently paint the lower
tip, helping you achieve a defined straight edge. These can usually
be purchased from a local beauty salon, but in an emergency,
try Post-It Notes. These really do work.
- Finally you
need to apply a good top coat to seal and protect. This can be OPI
Top Coat or RapiDry
Top Coat, the choice is yours.
This isn't
the only colour combination you can use to achieve that French
Manicure look with OPI, but it is a tried and tested favorite
here at Nails and Things. And remember, if you're feeling really
daring, why not try using usual colour combinations to really
stand out, like blue and green, or black and white.
